Mexican company DEACERO will invest $600 million to construct a new steel mill in Ramos Arizpe, Coahuila. Known as the "Ramos II Investment Project," this initiative includes a rolling mill designed to produce structural profiles up to 27 inches, aiming to meet national demand for long products and replace imports.
Scheduled to begin operations in February 2026, this new complex is poised to become one of the most modern and sustainable steel mills globally. The project will also create 1,000 direct jobs.
The project will incorporate cutting-edge technologies and circular economy practices, with an increased production capacity of one million tons per year. The new plant will use recycled steel, clean energy, and electric furnace technology, reducing carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions by a factor of seven compared to traditional blast furnace technology.
Job Creation
The company announced that approximately 1,000 highly skilled direct jobs and 2,500 indirect jobs will be generated, in addition to 1,500 daily jobs during the construction phase.
This $600 million investment adds to the investment made in 2011-2012, bringing the total to $1.3 billion and solidifying Coahuila's position as the largest steel producer in Mexico.
