Danfoss will have a plant to manufacture compressors and sensors in Nuevo León

Danfoss announced the construction of a new compressor and sensor manufacturing plant in Apodaca , Nuevo León, with an area of ​​20,000 square meters, where medium and large scroll compressors , pressure sensors for HVAC/R, as well as pressure sensors will be produced. A2L leak detection for residential and commercial refrigeration and air conditioning.

The main plant in Apodaca has 30,000 square meters, to which another 20,000 square meters will be added; The building will be ready by the end of 2024, starting with a capacity for 100,000 compressor units, 1.6 million pressure sensors and one million A2L leak detection sensors.

“The Apodaca plant will be able to supply the national and North American market, helping customers improve the efficiency and safety of their cooling systems with a regionalized supply chain,” said Bert Labots, vice president of Sensing Solutions. 

“This division offers a broad portfolio of advanced sensor technologies and application expertise to help the industries and people we serve embrace a digital-centric future with industry-leading insights, world-class support, and sensors that enable a connection and a sustainable future.”

The event to lay the first stone was attended by Iván Rivas Rodríguez, Secretary of Economy of Nuevo León; Emmanuel Loo, Undersecretary of State Economic Development, and Héctor Morales Rivera, representative of the mayor of Apodaca.

Xavier Casas, general director of Danfoss Mexico, commented that they are proud to produce these refrigeration solutions in Mexico and to "increase our support and commitment to the market, we will employ more than 400 people, which is an additional 25% to what we already has Danfoss in Mexico”.

This move is part of Danfoss' ESG ( Environmental, Social, Governance) strategy to offer localized production to customers by expanding the global production footprint. Danfoss also ensures the flexibility and security of the supply chain for the future.

The company began its operations in Mexico in 1995. It has plants in Nuevo León, Querétaro, Reynosa and offices in Mexico City, worldwide it has more than 100 plants in more than 20 countries.

Xavier Casas highlighted that the company seeks excellence and to be reliable for its clients, currently its global sales levels reached 10,000 million euros, which represents a growth of 26 percent. "In five years we went from 5,000 million to 10,000 million euros, we have won the market from our competitors, we have many plans to continue growing in other industries."

Another purpose is to create solutions that are carbon dioxide (CO2) neutral by 2030, to create long-term value and have a circular economy.

He declined to give the investment amount due to company policy. 

Danfoss and its supplier 

Currently, it has 40 to 50% national content. "I want to bring it to 70%, this helps logistics a lot, we are talking about two to three years to increase the base of Mexican suppliers."

Regarding the supply of microchips, Peter Young, sales director of the Climate Solutions division, said that they already have it guaranteed, because it is a centralized purchase. 

The plant will be ready by the end of 2024 and it is expected to have 60% production for export and 40% national production to see how customers behave, where they have their production, many distribute here but the product is finished in the United States United States or in some other country.
