The South Texas Economic Progress Council (Costep) is actively participating in the business mission "Namaste India!" taking place in the cities of Mumbai and New Delhi in India. The mission aims to promote the influx of new investments and job opportunities to the South Texas region.

Adam González, CEO of Costep, will be part of dialogues with entrepreneurs, industrialists, and authorities, alongside other community leaders and economic development organizations in Texas.

Diverse Opportunities

Costep's work is characterized by globally promoting economic development in South Texas by showcasing the diverse opportunities the region offers, spanning from Laredo to Brownsville in Texas. The region's proximity to Mexico, specifically Northern Nuevo León and Tamaulipas, further enhances its strength.

"The goal of Costep is to promote Texas and Rio South Texas nationally and internationally as a destination for companies looking to relocate or expand to the United States. Our objective in India is to connect with as many companies interested in Texas as their growth destination," mentioned González.

Commercial Partnerships

Costep's participation in India also seeks to strengthen Texas' commercial relationship. Presently, India ranks as the ninth country with the highest Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the state. Over the last decade, investments from India to Texas reached $1.4 billion through 59 projects, creating 10,300 jobs.

In 2022, trade between the two recorded $20.4 billion, with Texas exports to India reaching $13.3 billion. This constitutes 28% of Texas exports with India as their primary destination.

The mission, led by Governor Greg Abbott and including the First Lady Cecilia Abbott, Texas Secretary of State Jane Nelson, Adriana Cruz, Executive Director of the Governor's Office of Economic Development and Tourism, Arun Agarwal, Vice President of the Economic Development Corporation in Texas, and Aarón Demerson, President and CEO of the Economic Development Corporation in Texas, will last until January 28.
