Convention Center opens in Torreon to strengthen business tourism in Coahuila

With a maximum capability
of 12,000 people opened in La Laguna the Torreon Convention Center (CCT, by its
Spanish initials) work in which were invested more than 400 million pesos of
the Federal, State and Municipal Government.
The premises were built on
a total surface of 50,000 square meters, has the capability for 7,000 people
under roof and 12,000 people at the velaria.
There will be 200 direct jobs and 1,000 indirect ones.
The complex responds to one
of the deepest demands of the business sector since valeria will allow having
two events at once, having a big surface to fulfill under roof events.
Additionally, it is located
close to the airport, universities and of Santos Modelo Territory and its
economic impact will mainly allow a revenue in hotels, restaurants and will
generate direct and indirect jobs.
The main building has 15
microsalones (microrooms,) with a capability for 180 people each, and three
medium rooms, with capability for 1,200 people each, with comfort options.
It also has six commercial
premises, elevators, stairs and restrooms in three levels. Moreover, it has a lobby, administrative
offices, five sanitary modules, public parking with 500 boxes, as well as for
employees and suppliers, a central patio and an auditorium.
So far, the Centro Cultural
Universitario and the Coliseo Centenario have been the alternatives to develop
national and international events that project to this region and Coahuila in
America and Europe, in which the exchange of experiences in the business,
institutional and Social.
Therefore it was important
to have a Convention Center of this magnitude, with adequate and modern
facilities for the needs of a Metropolitan Area that includes 15 municipalities
of Coahuila and Durango.
Gerardo Berlanga Gotes,
Secretary of Infrastructure, Urban Development and Mobility of the State,
announced that by February 2020, the access esplanade, expo-esplanade with a
capacity for 12,000 people, additional kitchens, bathrooms for medium-sized
rooms and coffee break modules will be delivered.
While, in the future, it
has a reservation of 10,000 square meters, where four great scale rooms could
be built, with capability for 5,500 people in an auditorium format.
Meanwhile, Miguel Angel
Riquelme Solis, governor of Coahuila, in his message he addressed La Laguna
businessmen and said that there could be celebrated meetings, conventions,
Christmas parties and any event to encourage economic revenue.
“This complex will be a key
factor of economic development promotion and to tourism in all its concepts,
which additionally will encourage the increase of capability in hotels,
hospitals, and recreation,” he noted.
He emphasized CCT will have
a Board of Directors integrated by Business Chambers and other interest groups,
with the National Chamber of Industry and Transformation (CANACINTRA, by its
Spanish initials,) National Chamber of Commerce (CANACO, by Its Spanish
initials,) OCV, among others, that will help establishing an agenda to take
advantage at maximum and of the best manner.
Likewise, anticipated that
in August will start the construction of the Convention Center in Saltillo, and
thus keep the strong entity in the Tourism Business.
Finally, Rogelio Barrios Cazares, president of the La Laguna Board of Private Initiative (CLIP, by its Spanish initials) was excited to witness this work which is the first one in Coahuila and one of the most important in the northern part of the country.
BUSINESS TOURISM
The Ministry of Tourism and
Development of Magical Towns of Coahuila, Guadalupe Oyervides Valdes, said that
the CCT offers an alternative for meeting tourism.
At the same time, he
reported that data from SECTUR reveal that business tourists occupy 29 million
rooms per year, that is, they represent 21 % of hotel occupancy in the country.
That is how tourism of meetings contributes between four and six times more than a conventional tourist, for that reason the idea is to monopolize the attention of this group so that they visit this city.
“This region has more than
70 lodging destinations, more than 800 food establishments, trained service
providers, travel agencies, car rental companies, tourist tours, airport, bus
station, and good roads; La Laguna has it all,” he said.
