Continental will invest 210 million euros to expand its Guanajuato plant

The German company Continental announced this Thursday the start of its project to expand its operations at the plant located in the Las Colinas Industrial Park in Silao, Guanajuato.

With an investment of  210 million euros , the company expands 7,500 square meters more of space for production floor, warehouses and offices, adding to the 16,500 square meters that it currently has.

The plant in Silao is dedicated to the manufacture of servo brakes and motor brakes for the automotive industry in the region. The expansion project contemplates the construction of a new production plant dedicated to high-tech electronic products such as electronic control units (ECUs) for brakes and suspension systems  .

The expansion of the current warehouse and the construction of the new factory are 75% complete, and both projects are expected to be inaugurated and operational in early 2023.

Matthew Grilliot, director of the Silao Las Colinas plant, announced that with the generation of 1,500 direct jobs in this expansion , which will be consolidated over the next three years, specific profiles will be sought in areas such as mechatronics, electronics, electrical and mechanics , this, in order to carry out the technological operations within the plant and which will be adapting to the new industry 4.0 schemes and the introduction of accessories for electric cars.

Regarding the production that this manufacturing complex will have, he stated that it will be 15 million pieces per year , that is, one piece will be produced every two seconds once it is completely finished.

 “Being able to combine two projects at the same time, an expansion and a new plant, was undoubtedly something very challenging for the Silao Las Colinas team, but once again this great team demonstrated what the talent in Mexico is capable of, the increasing production capacity will allow us to continue producing parts that save lives,” he mentioned.

Marco Galuzzi, president of human relations for Continental Mexico , stated that at Continental the motto is the future in motion, therefore, its products are aimed at improving people's quality of life from driving a vehicle, safeguarding their lives. , since the main product is the manufacture of brake systems.

“We implement in this plant various developments that our collaborators send us in the Querétaro Research Center, which are aimed at the safety of people, for this, the highest quality technology is implemented,” he added.

In addition, he said that in this plant the main incentive is inclusion, therefore, about 26% of executive positions are held by women, in addition to betting on processes that safeguard the environment.

Continental in Mexico currently has nearly 20,000 employees spread over 21 locations (manufacturing plants, financial centers, offices, and research and development centers) in 12 states of the Mexican Republic. In Guanajuato, the technology company has more than 25 years of history and employs more than 3,500 employees spread over two manufacturing plants and a financial center.

Guanajuato, the best investment pole

To date, direct foreign investment is 4,750 million dollars , that is, 95% of the goal set at the beginning of this six-year term.

With this investment from Continental, Germany is consolidated as Guanajuato's main trading partner, along with Japan and the United States.
