Ciudad Obregón has launched a $2.9 million redevelopment of its industrial park to enhance infrastructure, attract investment, and drive regional growth in Sonora.
With an initial investment of 50 million pesos (approximately $2.9 million USD), Ciudad Obregón has officially launched the redevelopment of its Industrial Park (PICO), a key initiative aimed at boosting the regional economy through comprehensive improvements in infrastructure, connectivity, and public services.
The project’s groundbreaking ceremony was led by Sonora Governor Alfonso Durazo Montaño, Cajeme Mayor Javier Lamarque Cano, and Rocío Bárcena Molina, Undersecretary of Democratic Development at the Ministry of the Interior. This first phase is part of a broader strategic plan with a total projected investment of 267.4 million pesos.
During the event, Mayor Lamarque emphasized the collaborative origin of the project, which was championed during his campaign and strengthened by the engagement of the local industrial sector. “It’s gratifying to finally launch this important project after three years—this marks the beginning of the rehabilitation of the Industrial Park’s roadways,” he said.
Comprehensive Rehabilitation for a Competitive Industrial Hub
The infrastructure upgrade includes the replacement of potable water lines, sanitary and stormwater drainage systems, and the construction of sidewalks, curbs, bike lanes, street lighting, and traffic signage. “We will invest 50 million pesos in restoring the Industrial Park,” stated Governor Durazo.
The modernization of PICO is part of a clear strategy to position Ciudad Obregón as a competitive and efficient industrial hub, capable of attracting new investment while enhancing operations for existing companies. The project also incorporates principles of sustainability, accessibility, and urban inclusion to create a modern industrial environment.
Public-Private Collaboration Drives Regional Growth
The launch event also brought together key leaders including Clara Luz Flores, Head of the Office for Religious Affairs and Social Prevention; Alejandra Castro Valencia from SIDUR; and Francisco Fernández Jaramillo, President of CANACINTRA Cajeme. All emphasized the strategic importance of this initiative for the economic growth of southern Sonora.
This joint effort reaffirms Ciudad Obregón’s industrial identity and sends a clear message: when government and industry work in alignment, they lay the foundation for sustainable and inclusive development.
