Chihuahua ranked as Mexico’s top exporting state in Q1 2025, driven by its strong manufacturing base in electronics, auto parts, and medical devices. Discover how this northern state leads industrial growth and foreign trade.

With a strategic location, advanced manufacturing capabilities, and a growing industrial base, Chihuahua emerged as the top exporting state in Mexico during the first quarter of 2025. According to data from INEGI, the state recorded over $21 billion USD in exports between January and March, contributing nearly 16% of Mexico’s total foreign sales.

Manufacturing Drives Export Success

Chihuahua’s export strength is deeply rooted in its robust manufacturing sector. More than 90% of the state’s exports came from manufacturing activities, with leading segments including electronic components, medical devices, industrial equipment, and auto parts.

Among these, computing and communication equipment, along with electronic accessories, accounted for approximately $7.6 billion USD—over one-third of the state’s total exports. Automotive components followed closely, contributing nearly $3.9 billion USD, thanks to the presence of major suppliers serving both domestic and international OEMs.

A Border State with Global Reach

The state’s proximity to the United States, coupled with its developed infrastructure, has made it a key player in global supply chains. Manufacturing clusters in Ciudad Juárez, the state capital, and Delicias enable rapid cross-border logistics and just-in-time operations, particularly for companies in the electronics and automotive industries.

Chihuahua also benefits from a skilled labor force, industrial parks, and an increasingly favorable business climate, reinforcing its attractiveness for nearshoring and long-term investment.

Outperforming Other States

In terms of export value, Chihuahua surpassed Coahuila, Baja California, Nuevo León, and Guanajuato during the first quarter of 2025. This performance reflects a 2.8% year-over-year increase, highlighting the state's consistent growth trajectory in a competitive national landscape.

At the national level, state exports rose by 3.6% in the same period. Chihuahua’s strong contribution played a significant role in this upward trend, demonstrating its importance as a cornerstone of Mexico’s trade ecosystem.

Outlook: A State Prepared for Industrial Expansion

Chihuahua’s export momentum is expected to continue as global manufacturers seek resilient, cost-effective production bases. Ongoing investments in industrial infrastructure, talent development, and regulatory efficiency position the state as a frontrunner for future growth.

As nearshoring accelerates and supply chains evolve, Chihuahua is not just keeping pace—it’s setting the pace.
