Brownsville Showcases Aerospace Industry Advancements at 50th Space Congress

Jerry Briones, Deputy Executive Director of the Greater Brownsville Incentives Corporation (GBIC), emphasized Brownsville's active participation during the 50th Space Congress held in Orlando, Florida. Accompanied by Bret Gardella, CEO of GBIC, various business presentations and networking sessions were conducted to highlight the competitive advantages offered in relation to the aerospace industry.
The presence of SpaceX was pivotal, especially due to its economic and developmental impact. Briones highlighted that SpaceX has generated 2,100 jobs at its central base and over 7,300 throughout Cameron County. "This industry has positively impacted the economic development of the entire South Texas region, as well as the state. The company serves as an exemplar of what Brownsville can offer," remarked Briones.
In terms of wages, SpaceX contributes $633 million annually. In 2024, GBIC marks its second consecutive participation in the Space Congress, held in conjunction with NASA, the Department of Defense, the Space Force, and the United States Space Systems Command.
The aerospace industry in Brownsville is a growing sector. As part of the competitive advantages highlighted, Briones emphasized the ease of transportation through roads, airports, seaports, railways, and space terminals.
During an interview, the executive underscored growth opportunities for 2024. Therefore, GBIC's team will reinforce its business sector support programs, focusing on personnel training, business placement, legal counsel, and industrial availability.
