On November 25, 2025, a follow-up meeting on the expansion of the World Trade Bridge (International Bridge III) was held at Laredo City Hall. The session brought together municipal and state authorities, technical teams responsible for project design and supervision, and representatives from the business sector.
The meeting aimed to review the latest progress on both sides of the border and strengthen binational coordination to ensure that the expansion proceeds in an orderly manner, with aligned timelines and technically compatible structures. U.S. officials reported advancements in environmental processes and pre-bidding stages, while Mexico confirmed that the executive project has already obtained the necessary authorizations and is preparing to begin construction in early 2026.
Results and Commitments
Both teams emphasized the importance of maintaining close communication to ensure efficient and safe operations once the expansion is completed. The Government of Tamaulipas reiterated its objective of finishing construction before October 2028, noting that it already has the required permits and resources. U.S. authorities confirmed progress on federal permitting and the stages leading up to construction.
This meeting reaffirmed the joint commitment of both governments to move forward with a project that will enhance competitiveness, logistical capacity, and the dynamism of the Laredo–Nuevo Laredo corridor—one of the most critical trade routes in North America.
Business-Sector Recognition
Eduardo A. Garza Robles, President of COMCE Northeast Laredo Chapter, praised the transparency and openness shown by authorities from both countries and expressed appreciation to Governor Villarreal Anaya for including the business sector in the process.
He also reaffirmed COMCE’s role as a binational business liaison, facilitating dialogue between authorities and private stakeholders to ensure that the project advances with certainty, competitiveness, and direct benefits for the logistics and economic community on both sides of the border.
