BIC, a French company renowned for its office products, recently inaugurated its second expansion in Coahuila, Mexico, with a significant investment of $40 million.
Lucio Lopes, the director of the Ramos Arizpe plant, announced that this expansion will boost the production capacity to an impressive 1.5 billion units of markers, pens, and razors, catering to both the domestic and international markets, particularly the US and Canada.
The decision to invest in Coahuila was strategic, driven by its geographical advantages, including easy access to the US border, facilitating logistics for the company's operations. Moreover, the region boasts a skilled labor force, recognized as one of the most qualified in the country.
In addition to Coahuila, BIC also operates in the State of Mexico, making Mexico its largest manufacturing center globally. This expansion further solidifies the country's position as a key player in BIC's global manufacturing network.
Mario Berra, the Global Vice President of Manufacturing at BIC, emphasized the company's commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. He outlined ambitious goals for the future, including achieving 100% renewable energy across all operations by 2025 and ensuring that all plastic used in products is recyclable by 2030.
Berra also highlighted BIC's environmental program, "Writing the Future Together," launched in 2018 to promote sustainable innovation and reduce the environmental footprint of its products.
The investment, originating from France, has created 490 jobs in the region, contributing to the economic growth and development of Coahuila. This initiative aligns with BIC's long-term strategy of expanding its production capabilities while prioritizing sustainability and social responsibility.
With this expansion, BIC aims to produce nearly 3.5 billion products annually in Mexico by leveraging advanced manufacturing technologies and sustainable practices. This commitment underscores the company's dedication to environmental stewardship and reinforces its position as a leader in the office products industry.
