Bayer Mexico will invest approximately $65 million (1.1 billion pesos) in the State of Mexico through "Project Spectre," aimed at expanding its pharmaceutical production and creating a Global Innovation Excellence Center in the municipality of Lerma.
This expansion of the Lerma plant will enhance production capacity for Latin American and North American markets, positioning it as a global innovation hub, according to the company.
"The Lerma plant is a clear example of how Bayer is investing in strategic infrastructure to meet the growing needs of global markets. Our vision is to continue strengthening our operations in Mexico while contributing to the country's economic and social development, promoting innovation and sustainability," said Julio Triana, Bayer Board Member and Global President of the Consumer Health Division.
The expansion will create 350 temporary jobs during construction and add 100 permanent jobs by 2030.
In operation since 1997, the Lerma plant produces over-the-counter (OTC) medications such as Aspirin and Alka-Seltzer, supplying the Mexican market as well as key countries like the United States, Canada, Brazil, and Colombia.
The expansion will enable the plant to reach production levels of 100 to 140 million units by 2030, solidifying its status as one of the region's leading production facilities.
