Basque company opens new productive plant

Investment in Mexico is a fundamental link of the globalization strategy of Grupo Maier, since this country is important for its main customers: Renault, Nissan, Plastic Omnium, BMW and Mercedes.

Therefore, Maier opened its new productive plant in San Luis Potosi, in which they will invest 20 million dollars to manufacture plastic pieces and technical subsets for the automotive industry.

“For 45 years we have expanded and nowadays we are present in three continents, with 11 productive plants and four Technological Centers around the world, we are a human team of more than 3,000 people and we have a billing higher than 450 million dollars,” said Koldo Kortabitarte, president of Grupo Maier.

The project of the Basque company is divided in three phases: in the first one will be done the injection process of complex pieces; while in the second and third will manufacture more complex pieces and chromed, paint, laser engraving and hot stamping lines will be installed.

Among its products highlight: front grilles and frontal and rear module components, components and subsets from the rear gate, pillars, refueling modules, as well as a variety of interior components.

The objective of Grupo Maier is guaranteeing a sustainable development, and generates quality work positions in a long term within the area, creating a commitment with collaborators and its surroundings; therefore the San Luis Potosi plant will be offering 250 jobs.

“For Maier, rank 1 supplier, is anticipated to supply in all manufacturing regions of a vehicle.  With the opening of the plant in the State we are already present in the third continent, we are already located in Europe and Asia, and with that we are taking a big leap to go to the place where our customers need us,” said Koldo Kortabitarte.

Within the company’s philosophy they seek contributing to the social development of the environment, therefore at the opening ceremony were granted two donations to two local ONGs: Nutriendo (oriented to low resources SLP children) and Juntos (labor integration of people with disabilities,) each one of them with a value of 100,000 pesos.

Finally, Gustavo Puente, secretary of Economic Development (SEDECO, by its Spanish initials) said that Corporacion Mondragon, group to which Maier company belongs, has installed 10 companies in the State, and there are more than 200 Basque companies in Mexico.

“I am planning to go by the end of October to the Basque country to strength this work you have doing, to undertake and see what else we can offer in San Luis Potosi, mainly in an specific area which is research and development,” he ended.

GRUPO MAIER

It is a Basque business group characterized by the functional development of products in the exterior as well as the interior of the vehicle, mainly plastic based, being the decoration a highlighted decoration (paint, chromed, hot stamping.)  with venue in Gernika (Euskadi, Spain,) currently has eleven productive plants: 3 of which are located in Spain: Gernika (central venue,) Navarra, Vigo and others in the United Kingdom, Czech Republic, India, China (2) and Mexico. 

In addition it has a Technological Center MTC in Gernika, specialized in innovation and technological development, as well as of several technological centers in China as well as in Detroit and India.

In 2017 invoiced more than 360 million euros and its total workforce is of 3,000 people.
