The National Supplier Meeting for the Medical Device Sector (ENPDM), organized by the Baja’s Medical Device Cluster in Tijuana, brought together companies, suppliers, academic institutions, industry associations, and government representatives in a coordinated effort to strengthen one of Mexico’s most strategic manufacturing industries.
More than a networking event, the gathering served as a platform for technical dialogue and joint action aimed at reinforcing the medical device supply chain in Baja California and across the country.
Baja’s Medical Device Cluster Drives a Broader Industry Dialogue
By convening the ENPDM, the Baja’s Medical Device Cluster created a space designed to align the different actors that shape the medical device ecosystem. The event brought together stakeholders from across the value chain with the common objective of identifying opportunities to strengthen local capabilities, improve supplier integration, and support long-term industry competitiveness.
The meeting marked a notable milestone by placing industry, suppliers, academia, associations, and all three levels of government in the same conversation, reinforcing the value of coordinated action in a sector that continues to expand in scale and complexity.
A Strategic Event for Mexico’s Medical Device Industry
The program included multiple workstreams developed throughout the day, including a strategic meeting with industry leaders and associations, collaborative working tables, a plant visit to Medtronic to identify real manufacturing capabilities, and a dialogue with academia focused on talent development.
Together, these activities reflected a practical and action-oriented approach to strengthening the sector. They also underscored the idea that supply chain development depends not only on production capacity, but also on closer ties between industry, engineering, training institutions, and public policy.
Baja California’s Role in the Future of Medical Devices
As the leading medical device export hub in Mexico and Latin America, Baja California occupies a central position in the evolution of this industry. The event also highlighted the need for the region to continue evolving in response to global market pressures and shifting supply chain dynamics.
In that context, the discussions emphasized three priorities for anchoring the sector more firmly in Mexico:
- stronger domestic supplier integration to reduce external dependency
- greater innovation capacity, particularly in design and high-value engineering
- continued talent development to sustain long-term competitiveness
These priorities point to a broader industrial strategy aimed at ensuring that the sector generates not only jobs, but also permanence, innovation, and stronger regional value creation.
Building the Sector Through Collaboration
The ENPDM made clear that the future of the medical device industry will depend on collaboration across the entire ecosystem. By organizing the event, the Baja’s Medical Device Cluster reinforced its role as an articulator of efforts that connect industry growth with supplier development, workforce readiness, and institutional support.
For Mexico’s medical device sector, spaces like this help strengthen the national supply chain while positioning Baja California as a more integrated and competitive platform for advanced manufacturing.
