In a global context marked by high competition and logistical challenges, optimizing the supply chain is crucial for companies striving to stay competitive. Abraham Guerra, president of IDL International Distribution & Logistics, shared that the main challenges today include demand variability, changing customs regulations, effective coordination among multiple logistics stakeholders, and insufficient infrastructure, particularly at critical points like border crossings.

Optimization strategies

Guerra emphasized that optimization begins with detailed data analysis to identify bottlenecks and areas for improvement. This is complemented by efficient inventory management and close collaboration between suppliers and clients. The implementation of predictive systems allows for demand forecasting and timely adjustment of goods flow, avoiding both downtime and overstocking.

Additionally, to address constant international regulatory changes, it is essential to have specialized teams in foreign trade who work closely with customs authorities, ensuring regulatory compliance and streamlining customs processes.

Automation as a key element

"Automation has become a central piece to facilitate accurate inventory tracking, goods control, and the generation of real-time reports. This significantly improves operational accuracy, reduces manual errors, and enables more agile and reliable service," Guerra added.

In this sense, IDL has integrated advanced technologies such as Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), barcodes, and RFID for real-time, precise traceability. Additionally, they use digital platforms to facilitate efficient communication between clients and carriers. The company also incorporates IoT, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Blockchain solutions to track products in real-time, anticipate demand, optimize inventories, and improve distribution routes, ensuring security and transparency.

Cost reduction and trends

To balance costs and quality, Guerra shared that the company implements programs like BMI (Business Management Intelligence), which help clients manage the final inventory cost effectively. They also optimize routes and times through automated planning, strategic negotiations with suppliers, and continuous data analysis to eliminate unnecessary processes and reduce operational errors.

"We manage logistics in real time through integrated electronic systems between clients, suppliers, and logistics operators (3PL), enabling them to quickly adapt to unforeseen circumstances or strategic changes that may arise in the operation."

Finally, Guerra highlighted key trends for the coming years in logistics, including the growing adoption of Artificial Intelligence for more accurate predictions, the use of Blockchain to increase transparency in the supply chain, and a significant push towards green logistics aimed at reducing environmental impact.
