At the end of 2021, auto parts production in Mexico is expected to reach 93.962 million dollars, which would represent a growth of 19.8% compared to last year, revealed Alberto Bustamante , deputy director of the National Auto Parts Industry (INA) .

He explained that, from January to May, the main states producing auto parts were: Coahuila, with a participation of 16.9%; Chihuahua, with 12.4% and Guanajuato, with 11.1 percent. In this regard, he said that the northern region concentrates 51.3% of participation; meanwhile, the Bajío contributes 31.1 percent.

Regarding exports of auto parts from Mexico, he commented that more than 90% are destined for the North American market.

The United States is our main customer with 89.9%, followed by Canada (3%), Brazil (1.5%), China (1%), Japan (0.9%) and Germany (0.6%). In terms of imports, the main supplier of components is the US, with 51 percent.

"We have a positive balance of more than 10,000 million dollars from January to May of this year," he said.

The director highlighted that of the 100% of imports made by the United States, 37.32% belongs to Mexico, positioning it as the main supplier to the United States. “It is followed by China with 9.92% and Canada with 9.84%; this difference in percentages is what has kept Mexico as the main supplier to the United States ”.

The states to which Mexico mainly exports are Texas, California, South Carolina, Arizona and Louisiana. "This refers to a distribution that is destined to the 70 manufacturing plants of light vehicles and 39 of heavy vehicles in the United States."

He revealed that, according to forecasts, more than 17 million new units sold in the United States are expected for December.

SEMICONDUCTORS

According to Bustamante, the impact due to the lack of semiconductors in North America is beginning to stabilize.

“For the following months we will begin to see not only how the curve begins to flatten, but also how the impact of the lack of semiconductors decreases and the supply begins to stabilize. We hope that this sector is 100% recovered and that we can give continuity to 2022 with a start of production to everything that the engines give ”, he concluded.
