July 24, 2025

As the Port of Matamoros prepares to officially launch operations on August 1, representatives from the General Directorate of the Navy and key stakeholders conducted a technical site visit to verify that dredging, signage, and infrastructure comply with required maritime and port regulations.

Technical Oversight and Stakeholder Engagement

The inspection included technical experts and business leaders from across the region, who assessed the readiness of the port to begin activities in line with operational standards. The visit focused on ensuring that critical components—including channel depth, navigational aids, and port logistics—are aligned with national and international protocols.

Attendees included Gerzon Moisés Esparza Rodríguez, Commercial Director of Terminal Puerto del Norte in Matamoros; Raúl Amador, President of EMAAC and the Mexico-Germany Business Chamber; David García Argüelles, President of the Business Coordinating Council; Óscar Macario Farías García, President of CANACINTRA Matamoros; Iris García Silva, Head of Permitting and Coordinator of the Port-City Liaison Program; Sergio Gracia Badiola, CEO of Mexico Industry; René Xavier González, President of CODEM; Francisco Peña of the Mexican Entrepreneurs Association, McAllen Chapter; Miguel Ángel Vázquez, Representative of CANACINTRA Nuevo Laredo; Juan Carlos Ocejo Pérez, General Director of Terminal Puerto del Norte; and Gustavo Guzmán, Director of the Integral Port Administration (API) of Matamoros.

Regional Collaboration to Boost Port Logistics

The involvement of diverse business organizations and regional leaders underscores the growing binational cooperation to position Matamoros as a strategic node for logistics, trade, and investment. The new port aims to enhance the region’s infrastructure and play a key role in advancing economic development and cross-border connectivity in Tamaulipas.
