Alibaba Cloud to Open Data Center in Mexico as Part of Expansion Plan

Alibaba Cloud announced the upcoming launch of new data centers and confirmed that Mexico will be included in the list of countries scheduled for next year. The announcement was made at the Apsara Conference 2025 in Hangzhou, China, as part of an expansion plan that also covers Brazil, France, and the Netherlands, in addition to Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, and Dubai.
Scope of the plan and regional support
The strategy also includes new regional service centers in Indonesia and Germany, offering continuous support in multiple languages. Alibaba Cloud currently operates 91 availability zones across 29 regions worldwide.
Corporate message and ecosystem programs
Dr. Feifei Li, President of International Business and SVP of Alibaba Cloud Intelligence Group, explained that the infrastructure expansion responds to growing demand from clients developing AI and cloud solutions: “We are ready to power the next generation of AI agents and unlock new opportunities.”
As part of this announcement, the company launched the AI Catalyst Program, designed to support AI-driven companies with access to products, expert guidance, and go-to-market resources. The program offers up to 2 billion free tokens in Model Studio and as much as USD 120,000 in cloud credits.
The Platform for AI (PAI) also announced the integration of NVIDIA’s Physical AI suite, focused on humanoid robotics and physical AI solutions. Alibaba Cloud also presented international initiatives and collaborations showcasing the use of its technologies in sports, healthcare, marketing, and IT services.
Highlighted examples included: a hackathon in Europe with the International Skating Union and ThinkSport; an adverse event reporting system using Qwen and Model Studio for AstraZeneca China with an estimated 95% accuracy and 300% efficiency gains; cybersecurity solutions with CTDR and MDR for Shiseido; content and avatar developments with GladCube; a large-scale Japanese model leveraging Pinpoint-tuning methodology with FLUX; and end-to-end Turbo AI solutions running on Alibaba Cloud infrastructure.
Mexico’s inclusion in the expansion plan positions the country within Alibaba Cloud’s international roadmap to broaden coverage and services for clients and partners over the next year, as outlined at Apsara 2025.
