Matamoros continues to consolidate itself as a strategic hub for the manufacturing industry in northern Mexico, following CAS Global’s first international shipment of finished products to the United States as part of its alliance with Canadian firm ERA Group.

This shipment marks the formal start of operations of a new plastic injection molding plant in Matamoros, the result of a joint venture between both companies, with an initial investment of US$3 million. The project also includes the creation of jobs at two manufacturing plants in Tamaulipas and a logistics center in Brownsville, Texas.

Foreign investment drives manufacturing in Matamoros

During the event, Magdaleno Flores Guerrero, General Director of CAS Global LLC, highlighted that this first shipment represents a new stage of growth for the company and an important step in its international expansion strategy.

“This is a very exciting moment. This first shipment of products manufactured in Matamoros to Brownsville means a lot to us. It opens doors with companies looking for responsible suppliers and strengthens our presence in new markets,” he said.

The project includes the manufacturing of school supplies, educational products and household items, mainly for the United States and Canadian markets, with expansion plans toward Mexico.

Nearshoring and strategic location drive companies to Tamaulipas

For his part, Steven Leblond, President of ERA Group, explained that relocating operations to Matamoros was a strategic decision based on factors such as geographic location, logistics infrastructure and the availability of human talent.

“We chose Matamoros because of its culture, its people and its logistics; it made a lot of sense for our operation,” he said.

Leblond detailed that although the transition was planned over the course of a year, machinery installation and the start of production were completed in just three and a half months, allowing operations to begin in record time.

Matamoros and Brownsville strengthen their economic integration

Beyond its local impact, this project reinforces the economic integration between Matamoros and Brownsville by establishing a binational model in which manufacturing takes place in Mexico and distribution is coordinated from Texas to major retail chains in North America.

Flores also recognized the support of economic promotion organizations such as COSTEP, Consejo para el Progreso Económico del Sur de Texas; Greater Brownsville Incentives Corporation; and CANACINTRA Matamoros, institutions that facilitated the approach and consolidation of this business alliance.

Matamoros positions itself as a key industrial node in North America

With this first international shipment, Matamoros sends a clear signal to the global market: the city is strengthening its position as a competitive destination for foreign investment, advanced manufacturing development and the growth of supply chains linked to nearshoring in Mexico.
