Mars Petcare has made a significant growth commitment with a purpose to create a Better World for Pets. The company announced an investment of 3.5 billion pesos in its wet food plant in Querétaro, including the inauguration of its first expansion and a new investment. By 2025, the plant will have 14 additional production lines, with 8 already in operation.
Inaugurated in 2018, this plant will quadruple its initial production capacity through these expansions to meet the increasing demand for PEDIGREE and WHISKAS pouches. This will also position the plant to continue its innovation plans in the coming years.
With this new injection of resources, the Mars Petcare facility in Querétaro will become the largest Mars plant globally for wet pet food production.
“This achievement complements the milestones already reached, as Mars Petcare in Querétaro is currently the largest and most efficient dry food plant for Mars,” said Mauricio Espinosa, director of manufacturing at Mars Pet Nutrition Mexico. “More than seventy products will be produced at this plant, making it an exemplary case in the industry,” he added.
Mars Petcare also operates another wet food plant in Jalisco, and together with the new production lines in Querétaro, they will be crucial in meeting local demand and exporting to the rest of the Americas.
“This will allow our business in Mexico to establish itself as an export hub for Mars Petcare, expanding our impact in both local and export markets, demonstrating the strength and quality of the Mexican industry,” commented Mauricio Espinosa.
Sustainable Facilities
Technology is a fundamental aspect of the industry, and this investment includes new and more efficient processes. The plant will feature energy optimization systems and water-saving measures through rainwater reuse and advanced treatment, allowing over 80% of the water to be reused.
Additionally, it will have state-of-the-art digital systems for quicker decision-making and new packaging mechanics to make the number of products per pallet more efficient and functional, resulting in logistical efficiency with CO2 savings. Ultimately, the plant will become a sustainable facility operating with 100% renewable electricity from the wind farm in Dzilam Bravo, Yucatán, like the other Mars plants in the country.
Mars Petcare continues to lead the pet food industry while maintaining its market leadership. With these new investments, Mars Petcare is not only further committing to the country by creating over 300 permanent jobs in Querétaro and 600 temporary jobs but also showing its dedication to creating the world we want tomorrow by improving the lives of people and their pets.
