McAllen, Texas - In a bid to ensure that the emerging professionals in South Texas acquire the necessary knowledge and skills demanded by industries, the McAllen Economic Development Corporation (McAllen EDC) is set to roll out various learning and training programs aimed at high school and university students.

By focusing on specialized topics such as manufacturing, emerging technologies, and information systems, access to better salary opportunities is also ensured, as highlighted by Josh Vazquez, the workforce development director of McAllen EDC.

"In 2024, we will be working closely with universities, technical colleges, and high schools to ensure that the workforce in McAllen continues to grow. One of our main competitive advantages is having skilled professionals with knowledge of the latest industry trends, which is why we also need to promote them to stay in the region to grow together," he mentioned.

In an interview with Mexico Industry, Vazquez emphasized the agreements that McAllen EDC has forged with various universities and organizations in South Texas to empower students in their development. He added that professionals already working in companies also receive tailored plans that propel them towards better positions and salaries.

The alliances maintained with companies, organizations, and educational institutions in northern Tamaulipas are another priority aspect.

"To ensure the arrival of new investments and well-paid jobs, we promote ourselves as part of a single region. With all the alliances that McAllen EDC has maintained in recent years, not only with universities, we will develop training and education programs that benefit both professionals and the business sector," he emphasized.

The learning and training programs will be personalized according to the needs of the business sector.

The city of McAllen, Texas, concluded 2023 with the lowest unemployment rate in South Texas. With this, the goal for 2024 is to maintain this trend while also promoting professionals to find employment within the same southern region.
