In an effort to streamline commercial relations between Mexico and the United States, the Donna-Rio Bravo International Bridge will open its crossing to empty trucks heading from south to north on March 27th.

This route is part of a strategic corridor for the industry and logistics sector, located between the cities of Rio Bravo, Tamaulipas, and Donna, Texas. Trucks will save time at the crossing, as it will be a queue-free point. Upon arrival, they will be inspected using technology and X-rays.

This marks the first phase of an expansion project in which the city of Donna, Texas, in partnership with Customs and Border Protection, will invest $100 million to promote the economic development of the region. Donna, Texas, serves as the gateway to industrial parks in southern Texas and northern Tamaulipas, as well as warehouses and logistics distribution centers.

Carlos Yerena, city manager of Donna, Texas, highlighted the infrastructure adjustments for this project, including exclusive lanes for empty trucks and the consolidation of a control tower for CBP agents.

The opening to empty trucks follows various negotiations in which Yerena participated with authorities in Mexico and the United States, as well as business leaders and customs representatives. Obtaining permits and licenses for the Donna-Rio Bravo International Bridge to launch the first phase of the model project aims to expedite cross-border trade between the two countries.
